Purchased way back in 1992 from a German firm that is no longer in business, our spiral wire trims have been stored in Blümchen's archives for more than 30 years. Perldraht is a popular wire for use in jewelry making, fine embroidery, for fancy dress uniforms, clergy vestments and sacred cloister handiworks. It's great for crafting holiday ornaments, too - our artists use these spiraled wires in the production of our Victorian Whimsey atelier ornaments and holiday decorations, too.
'Pearl wire' is a traditional European wire trim that has been used for decorative purposes for more than 400 years. Made from strong round wire that is tightly-coiled into a flexible, hollow tube, this metal trim is also commonly know as French wire or gimp wire.
These metal trims will oxidize over time so that the gold-tone wires will acquire a darker patina, while the real silver is "guaranteed to tarnish."
Perldraht can be cut into small pieces to create your own "beads" for fine embroidery, jewelry and crafts. You can also make fancy spiraled wires: just put a piece of Perldraht over one end of a wire, then gently pull the Perldraht out over the length of the wire. For a decorative effect, try using a colored center wire with the gold or silver Perldraht.

daintiest of handicrafts, this fine coil is not wide enough for a needle and thread.

narrow coil is suitable for embroidery and is wide enough for a very fine needle.
